Multi-axis milling, turning, and boring across ferrous, non-ferrous, and exotic alloys — tolerances held to ±0.0001".
IMT Precision operates one of the largest CNC machining fleets on the West Coast, with bridge-style vertical machining centers offering up to 201" x 134" x 42" of travel. Our floor includes vertical and horizontal CNC mills, CNC lathes, and 5-axis machining centers from Viper, HAAS, Mori Seiki, Toshiba, Hartford, AWEA, and Mazak.
We machine aluminum (6061, 7075), stainless steel (304, 316L), carbon steel, titanium, Inconel, copper, PEEK, Nylon, G10/FR4, Ultem, and castings. Every part is inspected in our climate-controlled metrology room using coordinate measuring machines to verify critical dimensions.
Few West Coast shops can match our combination of envelope size, tolerance capability, and material range. We hold tight tolerances across large, complex geometries — not just on small bench parts. Whether the job is a one-off prototype or a production run, our ISO 9001:2015-certified processes ensure repeatable quality with full documentation.

What is large envelope CNC machining?
Large envelope CNC machining is the milling, boring, and turning of oversized metal components that exceed the work envelope of a standard machine shop — typically parts larger than 80" in any axis or heavier than 1 ton. At IMT Precision, our largest CNC envelope is 201" x 134" x 42" of travel with 10-ton overhead crane support, making us one of the few West Coast shops equipped for parts up to 16 feet long.
What is the largest part you can machine?
We can machine parts up to 201" x 134" x 42" (roughly 16.75 ft x 11.2 ft x 3.5 ft) and up to 10 tons in weight on our Viper PRW-5340 bridge mill. For horizontal boring work we offer 160" x 94" x 48" of travel on our Toshiba BP-130.P40. This capacity supports satellite bus panels, launch vehicle structures, and large vacuum chamber bodies that won't fit in conventional shops.
What machines do you use for large envelope work?
Our large-envelope cell includes four bridge vertical machining centers (Viper PRW-5340, Viper B5000GDW, AWEA LP 4021, Viper B2000PXT), two horizontal boring mills (Toshiba BP-130.P40, Hartford PBM-135B), and a HAAS EC-1600 horizontal machining center. Crane capacities range from 1.5 to 10 tons so we can load, fixture, and inspect heavy components without subcontracting rigging.
Can you 5-axis machine large parts?
Yes — we run multi-axis CNC milling alongside our large bridge mills, including HAAS VF-6/50 and VF-5/50TR 5-axis centers for complex port geometries, lids, and brackets. For very large structural parts, we combine 5-axis features with our large-envelope bridge mills to keep critical geometry on a single setup whenever possible.
What materials do you machine?
We machine aluminum (including 6061 and 7075), 304/316L stainless steel, carbon and tool steels, titanium, Inconel, copper, and engineered plastics such as PEEK, Ultem, Nylon, and G10/FR4. We have particular depth in aluminum and stainless for vacuum, aerospace, and semiconductor applications.
