Founded in 1994 in Hayward, California, IMT Precision specializes in manufacturing large, complex metal components and assemblies for the most demanding applications in aerospace, defense, semiconductor, space, energy, and biomedical.

IMT Precision has operated out of Hayward, CA since 1994, growing from a small job shop into a 50,000 sq. ft. facility with one of the largest CNC envelope capacities on the West Coast — up to 201" x 134" x 42" of travel. Our 9 core capabilities span precision CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, TIG & MIG welding, inspection & metrology, assembly & integration, Ultra High Vacuum systems, large envelope machining, rapid prototyping, and engineering services. We hold tolerances to ±0.0001" across ferrous, non-ferrous, and exotic alloys including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, PEEK, and G10.
Our customers include Tesla, Sandia National Laboratories, Maxar, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Applied Materials, SLAC, Brookhaven, Thermo Fisher, and a growing roster of commercial space startups. These organizations come to us because we combine the precision of a specialty shop with the equipment footprint of a large-format facility. From one-off research apparatus to production vacuum chambers for semiconductor OEMs, we deliver complete, inspected assemblies backed by ISO 9001:2015-certified quality processes, full material traceability, and CMM-verified dimensional data.

Large Envelope Capabilities
Large envelope machining refers to CNC machining of oversized parts that exceed the capacity of standard machine tools. IMT Precision operates some of the largest CNC mills in the Midwest, with travel ranges up to 79 x 32 x 30 inches on a single setup, allowing us to handle structural components, large weldments, and oversized assemblies in-house.
Our CNC machining centers accommodate parts with travel envelopes up to 79 x 32 x 30 inches. For even larger weldments and fabrications, our facility includes overhead cranes and rigging capacity to handle heavy components through full-cycle manufacturing.
Yes. Post-weld machining is one of our core competencies. We regularly machine critical surfaces and features on large welded structures to achieve precision tolerances, ensuring proper fit and function in final assemblies.
IMT provides full-cycle manufacturing, from material procurement and cutting, through welding and precision machining, to final assembly, inspection, and shipping.
Tolerances and Quality
Achievable tolerances depend on part size, geometry, and material. We routinely hold tight tolerances on precision-machined features across a range of materials. Contact our engineering team with your specific requirements for a detailed assessment.
Our quality lab includes a Nikon Altera CNC CMM with a measurement volume of 60 x 48 x 40 inches, a Faro Quantum portable CMM arm with a reach of 12 feet in a sphere, plus a full complement of surface plates, gauge blocks, and calibrated hand tools.
Yes. We provide full AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports, dimensional inspection reports with GD and T callouts, and Certificates of Conformance as required by our customers.
IMT Precision maintains a quality management system aligned with ISO 9001 standards and is actively pursuing formal certification.
